Nick
Zaninovich, PE
Supervising Civil Engineer
With over 16 years of professional experience in both the public and private sectors, Nick Zaninovich brings strong water and wastewater expertise to Coastland’s team. He has extensive experience in water system design and operations, septic system design, sewer system design, storm drainage and erosion control, and environmental remediation. He has a proven record in successful project and construction management.
Nick brings excellent experience related to water quality and permitting, supply and treatment, with an in-depth understanding of environmental and regulatory issues. He is responsible for managing all of Coastland’s water and wastewater projects; actively engaging himself in each project and providing project oversight.
Nick’s background includes planning, design, operations and management of public infrastructure at many agencies including the County of Nevada Sanitation Department, South Tahoe Public Utility District, City of Dinuba, Zaninovich Engineering, and Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District.
His focus on
detail and knowledge of government procedure, combined
with sixteen years of wide-ranging professional
experience, qualify Nick for contribution to all
project phases—regardless of
complexity. Nick is a licensed Civil Engineer in
the States of California and Nevada. He holds a
California Grade 4 Water Distribution System Operator
license.

Marcus
Freeman
Construction Inspector
Marcus Freeman recently joined Coastland as a Construction Inspector. He brings several years of related construction experience, which includes inspection, field problem resolution, preparation of various plans including traffic control, bid solicitation, pre-job preparation, underground piping installation and general contract administration for a variety of private and public works projects.
Marcus also brings strong expertise in effectively
dealing with the public. He has experience solving
field problems and concerns through meetings with
the public and working closely with city staff.
With a demonstrated ability to establish good working
relationships with all project stakeholders, Marcus
is able to maintain continuity in construction projects.
His advanced knowledge of computer systems, local
and state/federal construction standards, and related
construction methodology provide him with the relevant
technical expertise needed to be successful.

Nathan
Valles, PE
Associate Civil Engineer
With over 12 years of professional engineering experience in both the public and private sectors, Nathan Valles brings a diverse and complementary civil engineering background to Coastland’s team. His experience includes the design of retaining walls, grading plans, sewer and water systems, storm drainage, flood control, and road improvements. He has designed numerous projects throughout Sonoma and Napa counties, including projects involving wineries, custom homes, commercial buildings, airport and railroads, as well as various hydrology reports, flood control, and design projects along the Napa River. His background also includes plan checking, construction inspection, and structural engineering.
Nathan has designed projects for several public agencies, including Napa County’s Public Works and Flood Control Departments. He has also designed improvements for numerous wineries throughout Napa and Sonoma, including Silver Oak, Hall, Bighorn Cellars, Gloria Ferrer, Clos du Bois, and Beaulieu Vineyards. Nathan has an in-depth understanding of FEMA flood control issues, environmental and regulatory issues, and brings extensive experience coordinating with the Napa County Flood District, US Army Corp of Engineers, the Federal Aviation Administration and Caltrans.
Nathan is also very proficient with a wide range of Civil Engineering computer software applications including AutoCAD, Bentley/Haestad Methods, GIS products, and Microsoft Suite. His advanced knowledge of computer software and civil engineering-related analysis and design, combined with 12 years of comprehensive professional experience, empower Nathan with the technical expertise to create functional, effective, and reliable designs.

Dick Engelke
Construction Management Consultant
Dick Engelke recently joined Coastland as a Construction Management Consultant. He brings over 35 years of experience in the construction industry. Having worked as a Foreman, Lead Man, and Operator on a variety of public and private projects throughout Northern California, Dick is very familiar with local construction standards, practices and safety standards. His experience has included a wide variety of projects including streets and highways, water storage tanks, large parks, bicycle and pedestrian paths, water and sewer facilities, residential subdivisions, storm damage repair, drainage improvements, and various other public facilities.
Dick brings a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills to this position, allowing him to communicate effectively to solve field problems and concerns. His many years of construction experience supplies him with advanced knowledge of applicable state and local codes, general construction methodology, and effective communication techniques when dealing with contractors. His positive attitude and enthusiasm, combined with his extensive public works and private development experience, provide him with the relevant tools to be successful.
